although i dont own an opus (atleast no yet), i do remember this feature being on it. whatever time its set at (say 1 minute in this case), is how long it will wait after it tells the computer to shut down before it cuts all power. this way if the computer does hang, it WILL go off albeit hard.

Check to make sure there's not some kind of setting for that on the Opus.
only the 90w model has this feature, not the 150w model, it sucks

hmm... I guess it is only AFTER you get the opus that you realize that it doesnt have a bunch of the stuff you thought it did....

    oh well.....

    shame really...

For anyone considering an opus, ask VERY specific questions... unless you have a VIA check the amperage on your motherboard for EACH rail (3v, 5v, and 12v) dont just say "I have a P4 3ghz,will it work" as the answer will surely be "yes people have done even 94 3.5ghz, go ahead" then you find out it works but not in your particular case...

    Be very weary!

OH, PS: I sent an email to opus tech support as soon as I noticed the issue (I simultaneously posted here) that was on last monday I think...

I'm still waiting for a reply from them...

Again, everyone in the forums seems to think there support is ace... I'm not that sure...

I am pretty sure that this is an old probelm as it is providing the 5vsb to the mobo which lets you use peripherals to wake it up and also use standby. To kill the power completely uou jsut need to use a relay that is powered by the ign and the molex.

I wonder if it would be wiser to go through another route?

Is there something that can readily give me 8Amps on +12v, does shutdown control, survives cranking on low voltages (my car gives a big difference, opus seems to survive MOST of the time, inverter never survived, even though the same model survived for other folk), will kill all power after x time, etc...

Hopefully all in one box, although I can live with 2 if that is what it takes... I really cant believe I trusted the "Opus is the be-all and end-all" generalization....

oh, PS: this morning my computer isnt booting up... I had to leave for school in a hurry and didnt have time to check it before leaving... I tried cutting power to the opus and to the ignition, and repowering both... I'll have to wait until the afternoon to see what is going on... lets just hope the damn thing isnt acting up after 1 week of use.... I'll believe anything is possible at this point though...

yes, but this is useless if the computer hangs. rather, if possible, id add one of those 555 timers (dont know how it works, but feel free to correct my idea as necessary) and have it hooked up to the ign and the power cutoff relay so that when you shut the ign off, the opus shuts down as usual and after a set amount of time (even if the computer hangs) the 555 timer cuts all power and all is good.

You may not want to go this route since you already spent so much on the Opus, but you could bypass the Opus' shutdown controller and use our power controller. It can be setup so it completly kills power to the Opus, and gives you many more features to use.
