i'm powering almost the same setup with a opus 150 with no problems, mine even has a bigger CPU P4 2.3Ghz
but for hibernation sakes, I would take that ram down to 512 or even 256 and that will help to reduce the amount of power needed.
First of all hello ppl... I'm gettin a puter in my vauxhall calibra soon
My setup will be
1. Asus p4s800 MX Series MoBo
2. Intel P4 1.8 / 1Gb Ram
3. Notebook 40Gb HDD
4. Notebook Slot-in DVD-ROM drive
5. Built in VGA (SiS) > may wanna change this to get 800x480
6. Built in Audio card that will interact with head unit in AUX mode
7. PCI > WiFi Lan Card USRobotics
8. PCI > GPS
9. PCI > Asus TV-FM Card
10. Usb card reader
11. Usb extension (free to connect any usb device)
12. Lilliput Touchscreen 7"
I have thought of powering this beast with an inverter cause i suppose no DC-DC adapter could handle (maybe can construct a custom made one but not now) the requirements.
So INVERTER + TANK BATTERY (i have a 70Ah as main would add another 70Ah) + APC.
Would this
A) Work?
B) Last how long when engine off?
C) Survive a "Crank"? <--what is this btw?![]()
D) Need a shutdown system?
E) Suck all battery with APC? (or was it UPC?)
thanks for any answer folks

P.S.:
I posted this after reading tons of posts... many ideas seem cool like rikys scheme... but i really dunno which idea to use (purchase a 400W DC-DC?).
So in name of simplicity and easyness i thought of the upper config.

thanks for the ultra-fast reply!
ok then it could go for that opus 150...now
let's make believe i got that.
It happens often i have to w8 4 my gf to get out of work, so I would definitely use some time watching a movie. How long would the battery (main) last?
Check out my setup: That is ran on an Opus 150. I haven't had my engine off with my carputer on long enough to drain the battery but it lasts long enough for a movie.Originally Posted by Moby

You won't know if it survives crank until you try it. Some inverters will, some won't. Since you didn't specify a shutdown device, it won't shut down automatically.

@XBrady
a whole movie? Well I guess i won't be needing the tank battery then.
@Bugbyte
It wouldn't survive crank with the UPC / APC thing? Argh... i thought it would've. Must find other solutions with inverter then...
opus will survive crank, if you do decide to go with an inverter the APC inverter is one that I have personally used and it survives crank

hmm ok i think ill buy that opus...
should i ask them to mod the powersupply so to turn off the USB voltage?
(discussed here > Looking for a creative solution: USB bus still powered after CPU is off)
I'm so happy the battery lasts one whole movie at engine off!!![]()
you dont look like you have very many usb devices so I would say no, but thats going to be more up to you
