I use an atx psu with an inverter and haven't had any problems. However, people avoid inverters for several reasons such as inefficiency (dc->ac->dc), noise, etc.
I was reading in a previous post that someone is powering their carputer with a 300watt atx power supply. So I searched atx power supplies and found that theyre extremely cheap especially for the power they put out. Would you need an inverter for them though? I want a lot of power because I want to use a good mobo and graphics card.

damn I want a lot of power without hassles. I calculated how much power my computer would put out and it was like 350 watts so I need a fairly big power supply
I want this power supply because it has good power and would look nice after fabrication.

zoomzoom, if you use an Opus you get startup and shutdown controlled by something designed to work in a car.
If you go the ATX PSU and inverter route you will also have to buy a shutdwon controller. please please please go research a bit more before you waste money on the wrong stuff and run nto all sorts of problems.

Theres no way an opus 150w can power that. Needs a little work also.
*edit* dont get me wrong the Opus is amazing and I wish theyd have a bigger power supply than the 150w but they dont and maybe I want more power.
