Here's a way to do what you want, if you really want to turn your PC on when your ignition is OFF (note: your amps probably won't be powered if the ignition is off).
Hope this helps!
Hi,
I was wondering if there is a way to use both the ignition and a power switch to control the carputer on/off power. Basically, I know there is a way to power on the carputer when the ignition is turned on but what if I want to turn the carputer off while the ignition is still on, is there a way to do so? If so what do I need to do (maybe someone has a schematic for this type of setup).
All I want is to make my carputer turn on when the ignition is started and turn off when the ignition is turn off, and also to be able to turn the pc off or on via power switch.
Hope there is a way...

Well I was thinking more about having control on the computers power ON/OFF after the ingition was turned ON. I don't want to turn the pc ON if the car is not ON. Just like a regular radio, you can turn it ON/OFF after the ignition was turned ON or it can be turned ON simultaneously with the ignition (if it was ON prior to turning the ignition OFF the last time the car was running).
Thanks for the schematic, I had the same idea as well...

You can simply mount an momentary button to your dash from power button. Nothing more is needed. Pressing it, PC will initiate shutdown. I presume your computer dont have power when ignition is off, so pressing button wont obviously turn computer onOriginally Posted by TurboTronix

I put a switch in between my startup/shutdown controller and the ignition line. I usually leave the switch "closed" and the power flows through it to the controller. If I want to shut the PC down while the car is on, I open the switch and it appears to the controller that I've turned off the ignition. It shuts down and stays off. If I open it again, it appears that the ignition has been turned on again.
If I take the key out of the ignition, the power through that switch is gone just as if I'd opened the switch, thus the PC cannot be started or left on if the key is not in the ignition.
