E-PC DEFINITIVE 19V Power Supply Answer?

OK, I've spent days and days looking at threads, and I'm not sure I have found the answer. I just purchased and HP E-PC40, and after looking at the threads here and other sites like CarNextix, do I assume that because I have a 12v/19v AC/DC brick adapter, that no power supply will work???
The specs of the adapter output is
    19v @ 2.95A
    12V @4.5A
    or
    19v @ 2950mA
    12v @ 4500mA

Because of the specs on the 19v issue, I think I have read that no power supplies will work on this thing. Has anyone got their E-PC40 with these power requirements (there are different ones out there) to work with anything but an inverter?
Also, has anyone sucessfully connected a startup/shutdown switch to this "specific" system? After days of reading, it looks like I'm out of luck (Ebay, here I come). ANY info is apprecieated. Thanks!

Well, you're definitely right about no normal power supply working with it. I'd love to give you more information, but I'm not familiar with your system. I do think that (if i'm getting this right) your adapter plugs into another internal power supply via some sort of connector...you won't have a whole lot of trouble making a power adapter if you wanted to/can. The hardest part would be stepping up the voltage to 19v to get those 3 amps.....the 5 amps at 12v has been done, so you just have to search this forum. Make sure that all voltage is REGULATED!

the hp unit your refering to if i am correct has a ac power brick that outputs 19v.. im not sure about the 12v part, if it does have 4 wires (or 3) a gnd and 2 other leads (1=12v and 2=19v), then not sure still not a had problem... but lets go with the 19v, because the 12volt part as mentioned will be the easy if u have to have it.. i have the earlier version in my system. I bought a laptop (compaq 3000 series) dc-dc power adapter to plug into a cigarette lighter it outputs 19v at 4 amps. and presto i was done (of course i cut the cig plug and striaght wired it. now u can do the same thing and also get a 12v 3-4 regulator unti and tie the units together to give u the 19v and the 12v.. *search ebay for the adapter it will be 50% cheaper..

but that should really answer your problem , provided you want to make your own cheap version fix, im sure you could buy something out thier for your needs complete but finding it will be difficult due to it not being a carpc psu, and not sure what would use that type power plug would be for..
