Thumbs down ITPS powering PC and monitor

    Hello,

I'm planning to install an in-dash PC based on the EPIM-M motherboard from VIA and use a touch screen in-dash 7" monitor like the MTS12000.

Is it possible and/or a good idea to power both the PC and monitor from the same ITPS unit? Specifically is the ITPS capable of handling the power requirements of both devices ? Is there a benefit of running the monitor from a regulated power source or can the monitor do perfectly fine without a regulated power source?

    Thanks

Don't use an ITPS. It sucks. I know it sounds cheap but ITPS ($40) + DC-DC PSU (another $40) = a $90 crappy solution. An Opus 80 costs the same and will survive crank plus work properly.

Most people can't run their computer with the engine off when using ITPS. That doesn't sound like a deal but you have to run the computer to test it, set it up, mess with the settings, etc. Your car has to run the entire time or the PC freezes or shuts down.

How do I know all this? Take it from someone who tried using an ITPS with the same mobo you are and then spent the money to replace it. I should have bought an Opus to begin with.
