i have a Cel 1.1G, 256megs, 30gigHD, DVD drive and my monitor running on a 200W PSU off of a 150W inverter. never have had any problems.

Inverters are so cheap these days that in sears the selling the 600w for $15 bucks more than the 300w so why take chances when you can do it better the firts time!
Good look.....![]()
Wrong!
Get an inverter that will power your computer and it's peripherals. Getting a bigger Inverter doesn't provide any guarantees or any value what-so-ever. If nothing else, an Inverter that's too big will draw 'too much' power and kill your battery. If the power draw doesn't create problems, the cooling fans that keep the inverter cool after you've left the car will.
"more Watts" on an Inverter does not mean better power. Much like Amplifiers, 1600 Watts can be ****ty if poorly constructed.
Get a decent inverter from a reputable manufacturer. 300-400 Watts should be plenty for most installations.
Check your PSU's output rating, and plan for about half that in a [safe] car computer installation.
If you have an _extreme_ install, you need to plan beyond using an inverter. Inverters just won't cut it on big jobs becuase they are only about 50% [safely] efficient.

Agreed. Brand > Wattage rating...Originally Posted by bergeron76

BTW my inverter is 150W/300Peak. Don't know if that makes a difference to you or not. And my monitor is a 12".
I had a 400W from G I Joes. it was either the Xantrex or Vector (pretty sure it was Vector). Anyway, it was crap. It had soft start, which didn't always start my computer. It also had a low battery shut off (most of them do) that would turn off before my computer got into hibernation. I took it back and went back to my 150W. No problem what so ever.
heh, i don't think many of these non-northwesterners know what gi joes is manOriginally Posted by TimmyM
