    M1 ATX problems

Hi! I'm writing regarding some problems I have with my new M1 ATX
DC-DC power supply. My HD does not power up properly, it does not start
spinning. I have measured the 12V rail to the HD and it measures 11.1V when my VIA-bord is turned on and 4,4V when when the computer is turned of, which I find a bit strange. I have 13,9V at the battery when the car is running so it is not a problem at that end. Also the computer and HD works fine with a ordinary power supply. I only have the HD and motherboard hooked up to the PSU. Everything is OK with the 5V rail. I have mesured all the voltages both loaded and unloaded and they are the same.

Do you have any idea on what the problem can be??

    Best regards

    /Tomas Berglund

I have the following hooked up while testing:

    VIA M1000
    256 MB
    Seagate 3,5" 160 GB HD

As I mentioned earlier I have tested both with and without the HD.

My gues is that your Inoput voltage is to low, it needs to be more then 12V.

Try to test it with the motor running.

As stated in the first post I have at least 13,9V when the car is running.

Unless that hard drive is taking alot of amps on the 12v rail then you may have a bad psu. I'm a little suprised that your 12v rail is at 11.1v though. Normaly they are within 12v-11.5 (the lowest I'v ever seen on any psu). This leads me to think that it may be a bad psu.

I agree, if your voltage reading is correct then 11.1v is too low. A 3.5" HDD draws more power than a 2.5" laptop HDD, but the M1-ATX should be able to cope with it. Sorry to say it, but I think you have a duff PSU.

    re

Would have to agree with these guys we use the same power supplys and always see 12v even when the battery voltage is at 12v.

If you want to quickly get around the problem hook up a 2.5" drive the use an unregulated 5v line for power.
Spent all my money on carputers now I have to work a real job.
