    Power Converter 120vAC - 12vDC

I have a car player (almost complete) and I was wondering if anyone knew of a cheap solution to this problem.

In the house, I have to use a AC power supply, but i would like to find a converter to convert 120vac to 12vdc required by the players internal power supply.

I have done hours of searching with no (cheap) results.

ANy help would be greatly appriciated.

You are right, there are no "cheap" stuff when it come to "power".
    Search tips: DC-DC, Inverter.
You will find tons of info.

    Talking

Actually, Here's an easy and cheap(er) way to do it.

I got some alligator clips from radioshack, and had an old Power Supply lying around. I disconnected the 12v cables from the power supply, stripped the ends, and soldered them to an alligator clip. I did the same with some ground cables, and voila: A 120vAC -> 12vDC power converter.

Then, I also soldered the PSON motherboard port on the ATX plug to a ground to make the power supply turn on when it got power.

I plugged the leads that I just made into the leads from my DC-DC power supply, , turned them both on, and it worked great.

Just thought this $5 (maybe 30 if you dont have a Power supply lying around) solution beats the $60+ competition.

    Some Pictures:

I have a Dell Power Supply, so colors and layout will be different than standard ATX.

Ground and +12v leads + alligator clips.

PSON connected to ground w/ solder and wrapped in electrical tape.

My leads connected to the leads from my DC-DC power supply (in my player)

General setup. You can see my modified power supply (silver thing in the middle), and my player (big black box).

I did the same thing but I think that grounding the PS-ON atx signal is a better way to auto power up the psu, it's the default way
