    Easy and Cheap 12v-12v supply?

Hey everyone. I just bought a monitor off ebay that is powered by 12v 6.5a. So my question is what's the cheapest way to power this thing? To throw another ATX PSU (I'm on an inverter) and put the 12V into the back of this monitor? Or is there an easy way to filter my car's 12V at 6.5a (which is what I'd rather do).

Additionally, I chose to go with a lower-power monitor because I'll be doing more night driving. however, I do want some kind of way to see it in the day. This monitors going to be mounted nearly parallel to the road, only a slight angle, between the front seats of a minivan. If I tint the back windows, will it help? Any other ideas?

Additionally, where can I get barrel plugs? Like a laptop power plug?

i built my own 12v-12v DC-DC that works at that kind of current (check my site in sig) which would probably be your cheapest option... or you can go to the mp3car store and buy a 12v-12v if you would rather have one premade...
But don't take it from me! here's a quote from a real, live newbie:

Err, I guess not-low power. Low brightness. It has an USB hub, some kind of sound connections, and 3 video inputs. 2 VGA's, an composite in, and a s-video in. (Composite and S-video count as one).

    Let's just say I'm going for a non-conformal install. You'll get pics.

Well, if you are wanting to be ballsy about this, then be prepared to spend ballsy money to get it. It's like these kids that launch into having P4s and Athlon64 machines in their cars without considering how they are going to power them.

You need to figure out exactly what kind of power you need. I have a feeling an amp or two is required for the USB ports.

If you don't need the USB ports and you aren't concerned with the screen staying on during a crank, you can get by with a cheap linear regulator. If you need 12V regulation above and below then you need either an Opus or something custom (or you could go with Zootjeffs product that does 10A).

With 18 in hanging in the car/van/bus, I can imagine how it going to be when you involve in an accident? An 18 inch monitor smash in someone head. Oh god............................................... ......

[edit]BTW, Zootjeffs has one that can handle 10A (he claim it) [/edit]

Personally, I feel a monitor that size in a vehicle other than a limousine is pointless. Non-conformal or not, it's just plain silly. You're going to have peopl ebehind you clicking on your icons and ****.
