hey mike, I am not trying to be puchy, b/c i appreciate your development of this product, but should I wait to buy an p1260 untill after you have made a firmware patch and maybe a "scouse adapter", or should i purchase now and upgrade later...

do you plan on having a different product such as a "p1260 Socuse" and a p1260 regular or do you plan on selling the same product with an optional upgrade kit and firmware upgrade?

Whatever the decision, I am first in line....

it only has 2A of current that it can provide. The M1-ATX is meant for low power CPU's that run off the 5V line. Power= VoltsX Amps, so 12V X 2 A = 24 watts on the 12 V line. My HDD alone needs 20-30 Watts from the 12 V rail. This solution would use the powerful 5V and 3.3V lines of the M1-ATX and replace the 12V line with a 5A or 60 W 12V rail. the remaining 24 W i would use for my monitor and other small electronics. I have fried my 12V line twice because i thought "i have an 80 watt system and a 90 W psu, I don't care what each line needs." Its funny b/c i knew enough about electronics that I should have recognized
the M1-ATX ahs enough on the 12V rail for via epias and o few other processors
and laptop drives run off the 5V line.
unfortunatley I need a 120 Gb hdd or bigger and i can't buy a 120 GB laptop drive, I'm too poor.

And i think that the turn on lead is a 5V line?

Mike - the PShare idea is a good one, I saw it on your website but then it disappeared, would be useful.

    Any word, Mike?
Sorry guys. Lots of family stuff going on this weekend. Give me a little while to think it through.

My preliminary thoughts are as follows:

    1) The simplest solution would be to use the P1260 output BY ITSELF (ie not power combined/shared with the M1-ATX +12V output). You could use the existing P1260 and field upgrade the firmware with a "slave" (..er Scouse) version. This would require you to purchase a $10 PIC programmer and download some freeware. You can see how this works on our website HERE.. It's actually pretty simple. I'll have to dig into the firmware a bit, but I think this could be implemented fairly quickly. So to use the P1260 as a slave you would connect it ignition input to the M1-ATX +12V output. The P1260 would turn on with no delay as soon as the igntion went high, and would turn off as soon as the ignition went low.

    2) Unfortunately, power sharing with the +12V output of the M1-ATX (using PShare) may not work in this scenario. PShare was designed to EQUALLY power share between two of the same type of regulators (ie two P1260's or two P1290's). It controls the slave regulator so that its output current is equal to the master's output current. If the master is an M1-ATX, then it will try to match 2.5 amps. Obviously, this is not what you want to happen. Let me think this thru to see if there is a way to make this work. But I think the simplest way to do this is like you had suggested before: use the M1-ATX to power SOME of your +12V device, and use the P1260 to power the mobo.

I'll try to make some progress on this early next week. I'll keep you posted.
