My turn to be selfish. I have been posting very obscure posts about crap that no one knows about, and getting no response. I watch my posts fall down the newest posts list without anybosy ever saying anything. Do you guys hate me? have i been blackballed? Do i pick boring thread tittle? I am sick and tired of it. I want all 19,091 registered members of MP3car.com to be my personal tech support staff.

For those who sensed no sarcasm in the above paragraph you may stop reading, for the rest continue...

So I have been overloading the 12V line in my M1-ATX, and it burns up. Here is my soultion: Buy a Carnetix P1260. This provides a steady 12V line. I will take the steady 12V line and replace the 12v in the ATX connector of the m1-ATX so that the 3.3 and the 5V come from the m1-ATX but the 12V will be from the P1260. I will only use the M1-ATX 12V rail for my lilliput and my powere GM-AUX-IN converter. I have researched, and here is the diagram for the ATX connector, so I only have to remove one 12V line and replace it.

Here is what I have:

I will also split the 12V signal and probably use the carnetix p1260 for one HDD also.

So if you jerks are would read my posts and respond I wouldn't have to be mean.... but in all seriousness, I am not going to go ahead with this purchase and mod untill i hear from at least 2 people who say that this sounds like it will work. I am counting on you guys, If i get no response my carputer will never be finished

sure, it should work fine, however you will probably have to devise some way to make it so the carnetix only comes on when the M1 comes on. obviously leaving it on all the time would be bad, and if it didn't turn on until after the M1, the computer might get unhappy.

Good idea (totally unbiased opinion..

). I'll even mod some firmware so that the P1260/P1290 can be used as a slave (no delays). This way you could hook the P1260 ingition line to the +12V output of the M1-ATX and let it turn ON/OFF the P1260.

This is the best response that i could have hoped for> i was barely expecting any answers never-the-less a response from someone from carnetix. let me know when the firmware is done and I will pruchase my p1260... or would you recommend a larger carnetix regulator?

...well, actually, I think you may have found a market niche since there are so many complaints about the M1-ATX +12V rail. Let me see what I can put together.

The M1 atx has an remote turn on lead but i think it has a delay on it so that probably wont do any good. So what i would suggest is to hook a relay up to the the same switched wire that goes to the m1-atx so that you'd be able to run a constant wire but only switches on when you switch on the atx however way you did that. A standard bosche automotive relay would be fine.
if you need help on how to use the relay here goes:

Why do all this relay hooking when you can just use the M1's original 12v as a signal lead to the 1260 to go on

So MikeH, would you recommend tapping the p1260 into the m1-ATX 12V line or just replacing the 12V line. It seems that if I tapped the 12V line, I would get 5A (p1260)+2.5A(m1-atx) giving me almost 90W on the 12V rail. Do you think there would be a problem doing this, if so I would just replace the 12V from the M1-ATX, and use the 2.5A to power a few random things in my car........

Well, unfortunately you can't just "tap in". To effectively "load share" you need control over the actual voltage regulation point in the voltage/current control loop (sorry...it's a bit technical). Short answer, you'll need to use the P1260's output seperately from the M1-ATX.

Now, having said all that, I had a project started a while ago called "PShare" which facilitated tying two P1260s together. Maybe I'll resurrect the project to see if it makes sense to load share an M1-ATX and P1260.
