Powering a DC-DC from household power

So, I have a Keypower with a Celery 300 (and tons of other goodies). Enough so that I overload standard power supplies when I tap into 12v.

I'm doing some minor landscaping around my house and have come across 12V transformers for low-voltage lighting. I need to get a 300w one for reaching across the yard, and was wondering if I could use it to run the computer! Do those things provide stable enough of a current to run a computer?

Ha! Want to run the computer inside? Just disconnect the lights! I could even run a seperate wire into the house with a switch to swap power between the lights and the interior circuit! Even better yet - a SPDT relay so I don't have to go outside!

Now that I think about it, 300w won't be enough - this power supply has something like 50% effeciency - so I'd need a 450w transformer. But if it works...

Your computer needs a stable DC output (Regulated) Power Supply.
You can use 13.8 VDC Power Supply usually use for HAM Radio, find the 30Amps one, adjust the output to 12VDC.
    Try it.
