    Installed yesterday, biggg problem!

Well, I finally did the install yesterday, in 111F heat...and it doesnt work, lmfao

When I turn the car on, the inverter will do a real short squeal and the fan will spin for maybe a second or two then cut off. Power is getting to the inverter, using a tester Dad and I figured that out.

Its a Xantrex Xpower 400 plus (I think around 350 watt peak). Only thing running off of it is the pc, which is using a 250 watt antec psu. Everything worked great in the house, but when I put it in the car and threw in the inverter into the mix, it stopped working.

I got this inverter off someone on the boards, hope it isnt bad.

    it looks like this

    battery 6 gauge---60 amp inline fuse---6 gauge-----dual 30 amp fused distro block--------inverter
    --------100 watt pioneer amp

I took the inverter apart last night and couldnt really figure anything out. Also, it doesnt squeal each time, it will do it once, and if I turn the car off, and start again, it wont do anything at all. No lights seem to come on or anything, just squeal and a fan movement for a sec.

My stupid *** cable company cut my cable off so I am typing at my grams house, so if I dont reply immediately, forgive me.

I would appreciate anybodys help, my dad, who is always working on cars and such says its the inverter some how.

Weird. Have you tried to plug anything else into the inverter?

No, the inverter doesnt even come on, minus the squeal and fan spin for a second., we tested the outlets on it and no juice at all.

Make sure the inverter has a nice clean ground point. It's all fine and well that your power wire is perfectly ran, but the ground is just as important.

If that doesn't work, get a new inverter. If your 120V power supply works fine in the house it should also work with a solid 12V-110V inverter.

Im using a DSSC, and the inverter ground is going to a relay and from the relay to a chassis ground.

if it was a bad ground tho, why would it just spin up and squeal...thats whats puzzling me.

If it was a bad ground there would'nt be enough current for it to power up properly
....Yes, I know it has a stupid name, those crazy Japanese!

Ill check the ground again, any suggestions for places to ground in the trunk of a sunfire, lol?

I scraped the area around the bolt above the tire, but I did notice that there was some kind of sealant junk around the bolt top, I tried to scrap it off...would this prevent it? Im using ring connectors for the ground.

350w peak inverter isnt enough for a 250w psu.

Continuous power is like half of peak power. Sometimes a little less or a little more but its around half. So it should be a about 175w continuous inverter.

Edit: I didnt check the other posts, sorry, I saw that you wrote no power comes out.

Try plugging the inverter directly to the battery and see. When my inverter squeals its because voltage is too low. When the voltage is too low it can be bad wiring , bad ground , not enough voltage at the battery. Start the car and try.

Ok, checked the ground, got a good ground on the inverter now, and it stays on but emits a high pitched sqeal the whole time...

It is not powering the cpu at all tho..

well then now the inverter is not strong enough ...but you got it turned on. Does it squel if nothing's plugged in AND the engine is running?
