Best way to power a PC?

Sorta new to this scene, I was going to power my computer with a 400 watt inverter that I already have, however if I can do it semi cheap (<$40) I will do it via some sort of DC-DC PS, Does a simple power supply that takes a positive and negative from a battery, then motherboard and a few molex connectors coming out exist? One of these $300 power supplies is not the answer...Anyone know a good way to do what I need? I have searched, lurked and read the FAQ, still in the dark

SEARCH HARDER! the opus 150 watt and the M1-ATX are very popular. the M1 can be found in the mp3car.com store and is pretty cheap for a dc-dc psu. both the M1 and the opus have built in startup controllers and can be wired direct to the battery.
    System: AMD Duron 1200+ , 512 MB ram , usb sb mp3+ , Tview 7" touchscreen , M1-ATX PSU , Slot Load iMac DVD-Rom , 40 GB laptop HDD, netgear USB 802.11g

    Parts Needed: USB GPS

Were you asking for "best" or cheapest?

You don't have to spend $300 but it will be closer to $100 than $40.

BTW - you read the power supply FAQ but it left you confused? About what? I can modify it if it's lacking.
