    M1-ATX problems

im having a problem with one of my M1-ATX's. all i have hooked up to it is a 3.5 hard drive and this is what happened to it.

is this because something is wrong with my setup or was this just a bad unit?

    blown cap

I am no expert by any means but that looks like a popped capacitor. Do you think you're up for replacing it? Can you get a replacment from where you bought it from?

    Absolutely its not your fault.
Car is a heavy environtment. Most of electronic designer know it, and take it into account while designing, but sometimes there is one defect cap of thousands caps manufactured, and accidently that one is installed in the unit you buy.
Additional Noise Filter at the power line before the M1 might prevent this not happen again. Or replace the CAPs with higher voltage rating.
Please ask more WHY then you will get the ROOT.
