    Flummoxed with draw!?

    Hi,

I've been suffering a dead battery for ages.
I jumpstart the car, run it, goes fine. (Haven't driven it though)
And when I come out in the morning, the voltage is like 1.6v between the terminals. I disconnected the batt and the voltage went up to 2.7v and is staying there (WTF!) but when I put my multimeter between the + terminal and the + wire to the rest of the car....no current draw! I've set my multimeter on 20, 200m...everything. And no current draw!

Are you sure that the battery isnt duff, bad cell?? Though running this low, would mean a few are bad.

What do you mean 20 and 200m.

Only a multimeter with an AMP METER setting wil tell you if there is a current draw.

If your battery is showing only 2 volts, it is toast. No matter what the battery is connected to, 2 volts means the thing is done for, shot, finsihed, effed.

It's time for a new one I think lol. I do have an amp setting, but I'm not sure if I'm going about testing it the right way

First of all, as I said, if your battery is showing that low voltage, it needs to be replaced.

When you replace it, then you can test to see if you have an unhealthy draw on the battery. You can take it to a mechanic, and have them test it (They have a machine to do it) or you can use an ameter and do it yourself.

First step though, is a new battery. You might want to consider an Optima, battery, a yellow, or red (I had a red, worked great, but the yellow has more capacity)

I am definately going to get a new battery lol. Optima would be good. Can you crank a yellowtop?
