Looking for 6V 4.5 amp PSU

    Hi all,

I added a Belkin 7 port USB in my car and it requires 6v at 4.5 amps. I tried a 5V 7amp and it powers the USB but the computer cannot recognize some devices that are connected. I was thinking if I could step up the voltage on the 5v but I am not sure exactly how to do this.

If some knows of a nice 12V input PSU that outputs 6V at 4.5-5amps please tell me. I want to use this belkin USB since its working well with all my hardware that needs ample power from the usb hub.

open your 5v/7A PSU and take photos of inside, I will show you how to fix it into 6V.

I have the same hub, but I don't think I can make a PSU with 4A. I believe the AC PSU is nothing more than a filtered step-down transformer. I, myself would like a DC PSU with the specs of the AC PSU.

It looks like the LM338T may work for you. It will dissipate tons of heat as its a linear regulator, but since its regulating 6v then it should have no problems working during a crank. Here is the datasheet

okay. currently I am using this

    PST-ITX-1 Mini ITX power board
    http://www.powerstream.com/dc-3318.htm

I found this a while back and it was a great solution to power up a 5V 3amp DVD/CD-RW slot load I have embedded in my armrest console. Looks really sweet btw. I also have a ITPS before it to regulate its 12volt unput. So with the DVD needing about 3 amps then I have 4amps to play with. I dont thing the USB hub needs a whole 4amps, thats probably just max for the load it can handle. So show me what I can do with this power supply to get 6v off the 5V line. Mind you this also has 12V that I am not using at all. Not sure if stepping it down to 6V will raise the 2amp to 4amp being that your dividing the voltage. Also, I was curious if the other 5V outputs on this PSU are all tied together, if not I could use another 5V output if its not a good idea to use the USB hub and the DVD player off the same 5V 7amp line.

    Thanks to those who responded.

Oh, btw, I just picked up a P1900 for my moca 7043 pc and I am using the CarPC Pro v.2.4 to control the pc and psu along with a tank module and battery. Man, where was this stuff a year ago

Hey man, just wondering if you're using the sleep mode on the p1900??
I'm using the P1900 w/ a Commell 671, I set the JP1 pins 5-6 jumpered, and after about a couple of minutes the unit turns off hard...
I've run out of ideas and I'm not sure why it's refusing to cooperate.
    Thanks...
