quick advice on inverter not for my carpc project

I'm going on a trip to Houston. I'll have a rental for a week. I'd love to take my laptop, install iGuidance, and grab my Holux GR-213 GPS Mouse for the trip. Only problem, the battery in my laptop is worthless. Every time I use it, I have to use the ac wall adapter. So, my question is, what is the smallest and cheapest inverter I can get away with if I am just using it for the laptop to run iguidance and a USB GPS mouse. I'd love to go to target and get one of those $25 pos if it would work.

I got a 400W inverter from Home Depot for $30. I've taken my laptop on two LONG trips, and it worked flawlessly both times.

    This one:

You might also consider an adaptor such as an iGo, Radio Shack sell them now, it plugs into the cig lighter directly. Easier to carry and can double as a spare AC adaptor.

Regarding that Husky inverter... Mercury, if you're using it with a laptop, you probably can't answer this, but I wonder if it survives crank?

it looks like a decent inverter for only $30 (or $40 according to the home depot website)...

How about noise in the audio though? does it add a serious whine? the one time I used my laptop for audio in the car on an inverter, the whine was annoying... however it was a pretty cheap, crappy inverter.

From some quick googling, apparently that husky inverter is just a re-branded version of the walmart Vector brand inverters (MAXX)... and those claim to have "New noise free technology— prevent TV Buzz, Snow & Static lines"... could be marketing BS of course...

I may have to swallow my alternating-current-free pride and run an inverter for a while since the parts for my second rev carPC are going to be in soon, before the dragonBTV DC-DC is ready... so I'm curious about how well this husky one works.

As for the original topic... you won't need much to run your laptop. My laptop has like a 70 watt power brick. I use one of these:

that's good to 100 watts... not to mention, less than 20 bucks.
So nearly any inverter will work fine for running your laptop... the only thing you really need to worry about is the audio buzz.
But don't take it from me! here's a quote from a real, live newbie:

Really, so even that thing will be ok? That would be great. Not worried about audio buz considering it would only be on when we are actually navigating somewhere new. And prolly only when the lappy battery gets tired. When I said the bat was kaput, I just meant it'll only hold a brief charge. Thanks a lot guys!
