I'm not entirely sure where dragon is with the PSU itself... we've got a more concrete set of functions and I/O that the SDC board needs to have so I can throw the design together... I'm quite anxious for a prototype PSU to be ready so I can set up and test out the SDC design, and I'm just as anxious as I'm sure you all are to see how great i'm sure the power stages will perform... from the various single-stage output currents dragon has tested and mentioned in this thread and elsewhere, I'm pretty optimistic about it.

once again, we can't really estimate the price until a somewhat final prototype is together, and we can find out component and manufacturing costs.
But don't take it from me! here's a quote from a real, live newbie:

Hi, you guys are doing great PSU. I will defenetly try to buy (at least) one when(if ) it is relesed. Just an idea: would it be possible if anything in PC or PSU becomes too hot (or cold), that PSU would turn off everything? So we wouldn't need to worry abou high (and low) temperatures.

PS: If it is not done jet I wote for vented verion.

we are incorporating a temperature sensor, which will be monitored by the SDC.

over-temperature alarm and emergency shutdown are things we're already planning on, hadn't thought of monitoring for under-temp, however I can see how it could come in handy on those really cold mornings in some places... and it would only be a little bit of extra code so it shouldn't be a problem.

I would like an update from dragron aswell

I have the opus 150w and had to buy the Opus 80w for an auxiliary power supply because i was overloading both rails.

I would like a simpler solution with better shutdown options. I should be set for the time being but i am following your progress closely and await further news.

    Cheers

Why would those of us in cold climates want the system to shut down on very cold temperatures? That would mean that I wouldn't be able to use the PSU for 6 months of the year!

If the idea is to shut the system off to save the hard drive in very cold temperatures, keep in mind many of us in cold temperatures don't use a hard drive - I use Compact Flash to avoid freezing. I vote NO on a cold temperature shutdown...

You also have condensation of water at lower temperatures in the car. It could be a problem.

Low temp warning or "dont power up on low temp" option is more appropriate.
