    Well, I am going to make the circuit, and have already purchased the parts, but I "amped it up" I bought higher power transistors, and have only spent about $5, so I think your $25 is a bit of an over estimation....

    You could use the same supply that I am using....
    It will be able to deliver about

    * 12v @ 2amps
    * 5v @ 4amps
    * Power good

    And maybe the negitives...

    Do you really think that buying parts for your MP3 player is a waste of money????
    if you do, then why have you made a player????

    no, but what I did do is studied the theory and discoveries of others and thus avoided some of the mistakes of others before me.... thus not making a waste of my own money!

    from my point of view, you have started a thread, asked a question.... got an answer from people like Aaron, Charles and Technics who like myself have had a bit more experence in this area. you didnt get the answer you wanted, but are still going ahead.

    thats great you want to experiment with this, thats all part of the learning I guess.... but I was just voicing my opinion on reviewing this thread that you have wasted your money....

    ..... just my "heated" two cents!!

    (this deserves a wink and a grrrrr!)

    The power supply would run on between about 7 and 16 volts...
    would this work???

    a 7805 is one of the most inefficent regulators out there. they will run a 650 amp hour battery down in a weekend

    well, It will work, it should be able to deliver 1.5amps at least and it will work...
    and it won't get hot, and everything will be fine...
    Why wouldn't it work??
    I have atlest doubled the power handling of the transistors, and have used a higher power zener diode, and larger diodes...

    I have constructed the circuit and am now in the stages of testing it....
    Then, I will SHOW YOU THAT IT DOES WORK!!!!!!!

    Fine. It's your time and money. If it works, I'll be surprised. But if it doesn't work, don't be surprised.
