Actually it is exactly the same as using the 2587 only it is a much smaller package. You could probably get 2 amps @ 15 volts in the 8-14 volt input range. You have to look at the application circuit, you will see that there is vin, then there is a coil, then there is a diode, then there is the output. you can think of the coil as just a wire, Your input has to be less than the output by .6 volts or so.
