Thread: Availability of Components of Sproggy's Power Supply

Getting the Maxim chip as a free sample is definitely a good deal, but you know you could buy they from Maxim for about six dollars (not counting shipping). I'm sure you'd get better service from them then.

Getting the T-6 was nearly impossible..

I found a few suppliers from the Coilcraft page, One that I contacted quoted me 25 US

You would be interested to know that Rhombus makes an equivalent transformer but I had very little Luck with them as well..

I contacted the UK sales office thru e-mail. I requested a sample of the coils and T6. I'm a student, and I wrote that I needed the parts for a project at school. The coils were sent to me in a week, the transformer took a bit longer and came after three weeks.

So just e-mail them and request the parts. They will probably send them to you if you have a good story.

I ordered the Maxim ICs as samples and they came within two weeks. This should also work for you...

I -again- have send them both a new request for the free samples, and put up a good (at least I think good) story of that I'm a student and that I need these samples for my project... .. Putted in some information of my old school.. hope this will work

Now let's hope they will accept my request and send me the parts... ( hope they will... if they do, I can make 2 power supplies !! jihaaaaaa )

Opened it, and Yes !!!

there they where...
in a small transparent plastic box..

2 MAX788cck !!! (not available in my country!!)

along with a bunch of technical information..

Now I hope that coilcraft also will send me a free sample of the coil I need, otherwise I need something different then that, but that shouldn't be too hard to find.

Anyway, got 2 of these max788cck (PCB Ready, still need coil, rest off the parts easily available, and almost got half off them)

Whoa Again

again a big brown envelope in my mail yesterday... with..

2* T6 (Q4339-B) Coils from Coilcraft !!! (again, not available in my country, and if available, way too expensive)

Seems like putting up a story that I needed those components for a project on school really turned out for both Maxim and CoilCraft.. (I would say, If I'm able to obtain them as free samples, everyone is....)

So, seems like I can finnaly build some DC-DC supply..
Rest of the parts is easilly available (If I don't have them already)

Maybe, I'm going to ask National Semiconductor for a free sample of the LM2587-12T (but if that doesn't work out, they are luckily easily available in the Netherlands)
