    Opus LED as fake alarm?

A thought just occured to me.

Has anyone wired up the Opus external LED connector to a red LED on the dash? When the car is off it flashes every 10 seconds or so, it'd look just like a car alarm LED.

Where were you to inform the person who stole my last car with a viper alarm? You were supposed to be behind him saying "Isn't that pretty light scary? I wouldn't mess with that!".

    LOL.

well... if someone REALLY wanted to steal something or get in something they could. But it prevents the majority of idiots from doing it. A door and window isn't going to keep a burglar away, but it may delay him/her and discourage him/her.

The light makes me wanna Not touch the car... IF it's a nice car. Not if its on a P.O.S.... which I wouldn't want to steal anyways...

WHERE WERE U WHEN THEY STOLE MY $1 MILLION!?!?!??! THERE WAS A RED BLINKING LIGHT NEXT TO IT! (red means stop, so most should stop right? )

POS cars get stolen just as much as expensive cars.

Most cars arent stolen because they're gonna get chopped up and resold, they're stolen because some kids want to joyride it and smash it up.

They'll take whatever is easy to take. Things like steering wheel immobilizers and alarms make your car a less inviting target.

The thing is with alarms, is that they are ONLY good as a deterrent. If someone decides they want to break into YOUR car, specifically, the alarm won't stop them, even if it is real. If they're just after your stereo equipment, they'll be in and out in 45 seconds, at which point people in the immediate vicinity will be thinking to themselves "Doesnt that idiot know how to turn off his alarm?"

So I dont see any reason why this wouldnt be beneficial.

Had 2 cars stolen, 1 car broken into. Mazda MX-6 LS w/viper alarm = stolen, BMW 325i w/viper alarm = $5k worth of audio/video upgrades stolen, Range Rover 4.6 HSE w/stock alarm = stolen. Basically I just have really bad luck, I even swore off cars for a few years after my last car was stolen. All cars were hooked up with various mods. All stolen/broken into in completely different areas over a span of about 4-5 years. Not sure what model alarms were installed, but I never went cheap on them. The Rover was my brother's that was stolen from my high school parking lot in '98.
