Hi, i have recently bought an M1 ATX power supply, the connected hardware is as follows: Epia m10000 motherboard, one 80GB 3.5 Hdd, and one PCI soundcard.
Connected to the mobo is the audio, and a 7inch screen to the svideo tv-out.
Now to my problem, when the engine is off i have no problems what so ever, i can watch movies, listen to music and etc etc. At first when i start the engine everything is fine, i load some music.. it works fine, until about 1-2mins when the audio starts crackling for like 2sec and then the computer hangs, what is the problem? i hope someone at least can point me in the right direction.
I have wired the power supply straight to my amps supply with good sized wires.
that does sound wierd (pun intended) but before we blame the M1 ATX (which is the most probably casue), can you try to draw a diagram showing your connections just in case?
Have you also tried to disconnect the screen completely from your supply system and see if the audio also cracks after 1-2 mins?

The ground is bolted straight to the chassis, and the positive comes straight from the battery with an 8mm2 wire, i dont know how many gauge that is, but i rekon it's adequate.Originally Posted by masch

Sounds like the power getting to the M1 ATX once youo have the engine running is getting 'dirty', could be a bad alternator or some other electrical equiptment on the car which is not powered with the engine off.
What car do you have?
Hang on he's Swedish, so probably Volvo or Saab, both tend to have driving lights on alll the time.
I have a BMW520I 89, E34... All swedes don't drive volvo ffs(tho i do have a volvo to) :P

For My ATX i just tapped into my distibution blocks for my amps for power and kept the ground as close to the PSU as possible. i also tapped into the switched power of my Head unit so when i turn on the car the pc will come on. then i set the jumpers to the recomended 2 hour 5v setting and it is working great.
Hmmm i made some more tests today, and the system seems to run fine when i drive around and listen to music on a very low volume, tho if i crank it up a bit the system will hang, note that the motherboard, harddrive and m1-atx sits in the trunk, where also the subwoofer are... i cant imagine that there would be any vibration issues, because i can play music loudly without problems when the car is off...
So, to sum up.. the carputer hangs when i drive and play loud music.. i know that it really sounds like it would be a power issue. The thing is that my battery is very sucky, it's old and not properly charged, could this cause the system hangs? does'nt the alternator take kare of all the powering when the motor is on?... i mean.. the battery is kindof useless when the engine is on right? or does it act like some kind of buffer?
your battery shouldnt matter when the alternator is on. Plug out your audio and put a headphone in.. will it still hang?

It does not hang if i put headphones in nope, i guess that means that it could be some kind of groundloop issue?
