ATX Power Supply and Book PC
Hey all, I have a book PC for my Carputer, but because it has an ATX power supply in it you can't keep the power switch on, so when you start your car, you have to go into the back and switch the computer on. This is a MAJOR pain in the butt. Is there a way around this but still staying with the original power supply? And if not does anyone know if you can use a AT power supply on this motherboard? Any info would be helpful. Thanks all!
either extend the soft power push button to the front of the car...... or check the bios for a "auto power on" setting.... or what I did... I had the BIOS option under "power settings" to set what to do when power is restored after a power failure. I set this to "turn on".... when I apply power to the PSU thru the inverter to power it the computer automatically powers up, since it is considered a "restore" to power. did I make any sense at all then?!hope that helps anyway..

What I did, when I had a book PC, was to solder a 2.2k ohm resistor between the switched lead of the green power LED, and the switched lead of the power button. That way, when the power is off, the LED is off (low), and it causes the power button to go low (on). When it turns on, it puts the LED output high, which then releases the power button control. Worked great, and the real button still works to turn it off.

Once I got the BIOS working properly, when I switch on my car, my inverter powers up (yeah I know I should be dc to dc, but the inverter is also handy when camping). Once the inverter is on, all I need to do is press any key and the computer boots up. This way I don't HAVE to turn the computer on. Seems to work great for me! Thanks for all your help guys!
