    Question CarPC EZ v2.5d Advice

Hello I was considering building a Carputer, but am lost as to how to use the shutdown controller. I don't want to purchase it yet as i live in Australia and I was thinking of using this PSU. Any1 used this 1 sumthing similar, any feedback would be appriciated.

Well, that psu will propably not survive engine crank, your computer will reboot. If you dont need a fierce ammount of power i recomend that you buy the m1-atx psu, it has everything you need. Tho it can only give about 90watts, so if you are about to power something that needs a whole lot of power this wont be a good alternative, in that case look in to opus 150w psu, it also has everything included, startup timer, shutdown, survives crank and over voltage etc.

Thanks 4 the quick reply. I considered using the Shutdown connected in someway to the Start function of my car (Momentary on) then after this initial crank, have it stay on until the ign is turned off. Has any 1 tried this, cos im unsure what else i need. I need the PSU to power a P3 800 for the moment but im leaving it open for upgrades. (As it is just compy I have sitting around at home). Also has any1 been able located a similar PSU with more in the 12v?

    Thanks again

That is EXACTLY what the opus150w will give you, shutown controler+psu all in one.... the opus150w has everything you need. It will boot the computer when the ign is on, and shut it down properly when the ign is turned off. and it also has plenty of power

I want it to shutdown when the ign goes off, and turn it on after the engine starts. This way i can hopefully use a higher rating PSU, and have turn on after crank. Has any1 tried this b4 with this shutdown controller or maybe another controller
    Thanks again

    accelrate,

By modifying a setting in the configuration of the CarPC EZ, you should be able to get it to work the way you want.

With the config settings at default, the CarPC EZ will begin the turn-on sequence after a user-defined time elapses after the car key is put in the On posisiton (Setting 0 from config manual). If you always crank the car when you turn the key on, it will work exactly the way you want. However if you turn the key to the On position but do not crank the car right away, the computer will still start up.

To get around this, and make it work the way you want, you can set the config setting #13 - "Minimum Car Voltage Before the PC is Turned On" to a high voltage; something higher than your battery's typical voltage with the car not running. For example, a fully charged automotive battery will typically have 12.6volts. A car when running typically generates 13 to 14.4 volts. If you change setting #13 to 12.8 or 13.0 volts, the computer will remain off until the car is started and running and the voltage rises above 12.8 volts.
