    optima yellowtop overcharging

    Hey Guys..
Well, my system was running problem free off my secondary optima yellowtop, connected to my starter optima batteryt with a stinger voltage regulator for about 6 months, and yesterday I smell sulfur while driving. I learned that this mostly likely was because the battery was being overcharged. What are some possiblilites for this to happen? The secondaty battery was tested in the past, and it seems it was a constant 14.5 or so. Recently I did have some blown fuses in between the two batterys, but I believe it was caused by my AC/DC inverter alway pulling power from the battery when the car was off. Also, my secondary battery (located under the rear seat) was installed on it's side. Could this be part of the problem? I know the yellowtop can be installed in almost any position, but now I'm not sure if it was ok. Finally, if the battery was being overcharge (for whatever reason) is the battery now shot? How can I tell if I resolve these problem if it will be safe to use it again? Thank you guys in advance for all you input!!!

Oh..I also forgot to mention that when the fuse blew, the secondary battey drew completely dead. So I just changed the fuse, and the secondary battery began charging via the alternator. Mabey this had something to do with the sulfur smell also. Can I charge up the secondary battery once it's fully dead with the alternator, or does it need to be jumped to a full charge first? Thank you!

in that case im going to go with the battery being dead.. the battery wont overcharge from the alternator...

I suggest taking your battery in to like a pepboys or something and have them check it out as well as your alternator and everything to make sure its all fine.. they will also be able to tell you more about what could be wrong with the yellowtop...

oh and yes you can mount the yellowtop anywhich way you want... just not underwater
