    Optiplex GX260 + Opus 120 Question

I have a Optiplex GX260 and Opus 120 which is on the way. I pulled up the manual and was reading and looking for the connection on the optiplex and I am confussed as to where the power switch location on my mother board would be. Here is a link to the docs of my computer.

    http://support.dell.com/support/edoc...n/sm/index.htm

My problem is that my power switch uses a ribbon cable that goes to the front usb and front audio out so i can't figure where to connect for the power supply.

Here is a pic from the above website

Somewhere in #6 in the second image, I'm willing to bet.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

Try this (at your own risk):
With the motherboard off, unplug connector #6 (Pic #2).
Also unplug everything else except for the ATX PSU (used at home).
The PSU has to have power coming to it.
Take your favorite jumper and start jumping pairs of pins inside the connector well until your computer turns on.
The moment you see your CPU fan turning, remember which pair you've jumped and pull the power cable from the PSU (the 110V wire).
Connect your Opus to that pair of pins from now on...

Theoretically this should work because when the MoBo is off, you really can't hurt anything (i.e. you can't short the audio connection, can't burn any LEDs, can't short the USB connectors) all because there's simply not any power.

    Good luck.

    Dumb question i know

This is probably a dumb question but, how do i turn of the mb. Is it not automatically on when the power is to it? never mind i think you answerd that in your post i do that by unpluging 6. if i find the pins for the power my next question would be how to make the rest if work. I would not be able to leave that whole thing unpluged would i as it looks like it is powering the usb ports on the front panel.

btw 6 on pic 1 and 6 on pic 2 are connected together and the circuit board with the power switch has a ribbon cable running to 3 in pic 1

just unplug the pins till you find which ones turn on the pc. then plug the rest of them back in.
Progress,.... that is what I keep forgetting ;)

Once you know the pins to turn it on you can turn it off. Use a jumper for simplicity. Just jumper the two turn-on pins and once the fan spins remove the jumper. To turn off just short the same two for a couple seconds and it'll turn off. Now you have your pins and you can put in on a switch if need be. I hope I helped.

    Smile optiplex gx150 + opus 150

haha, i wish i had found this sooner, i just spliced the ribbon cable using an xacto knife for wire 19 and 20 going to the mobo and connected it to the green and white cable going to the opus. I did it that way so i could keep the front usb ports working. It would have been easier just hooking it up to the top two pins on the control panel (#3 in Tangerine Man's post), my way was just a hassle. if anyone needs a picture, i took a few from my gx150 in my worklog:

hope that helps some other noobs out there =)
