inverter timer shutdown

Ok I've been reading posts all day and still cant find a clear solution.All I want is to have my inverter be powered up with ignition and then when I manually push power button to shutdown carputer I want the inverter to stay on for a few minutes then turn off.Something like a turbo timer for the power inverter.

This isn't all that difficult.
Although I don't know the exact parts & wiring, you can pull this off with relays. The PC itself can be setup to power on as soon as it receives power. The setting for this is in the BIOS. Wire the power buttin for the PC to wherever you want it. With WinXP, a simple press of the power switch will initiate a proper shutdown.

For speed of startup/shutdown, you might want to consider hibernation instead of full startup/shutdown.

I want to start and shutdown the pc with a push button.Thats not a problem.But what I want to do is have the inverter on a timer so power is cut from it like for example 2 mins after I turn the car off.
Can the $42 sdc do this? Can it control the power to the inverter?

Yes, the 42 dollar SDC will do it. Almost any SDC will, it is just a matter of connecting it correctly. That is the trick.

Why not have the inverter power off when the computer turns off?

Someone made a neat diagram showing this, I believe it went like this:

Code:

                               |--ground
Bat ------o/o (relay)-------inverter-----computer
               ~~~~~~~-ground (computer also needs to be grounded)
               |---------diode
            diode             |
              |               ignition wire
computer 12 v out

So as long as the computer is on or the ignition is on the inverter is connected to the car battery and the computer keeps going. Then just make the computer know when the car is on/off with one of them software shutdown controlers and it can hibernate itself, which in turn cuts power to the inverter after its done.
