Thread: USB Audigy 2 NX, D-Link USB Hub, and 15 W POL

Ok, I have a USB Audigy 2 NX (Creative Soundblaster) and a D-Link 4 port powered USB hub. I want to power them both from a single Opus 15 W POL (http://www.mp3car.com/store/product_...roducts_id=138)

Looking at the AC power plugs, the D-Link power supply puts out 2.5 amps at 5.0 volts, and the Audigy power supply puts out 1.5 amps at 5 volts. Togther, that adds up to 4.0 amps at 5 volts.

The Opus POL puts out up to 3.0 amps (P=VI), P=15, V= 5, so I = 3. Duh. It also says that on the spec page. Duh, I say to myself.

3 amps does not equal 4 amps. Duh. So, according to specs it won't work. However, I honestly can't imagine either of those two system consuming as much current/power as the power supplies put out, the USB Hub especially. On it, I will have two things plugged in, one of them being Audigy 2 (which whouldn't draw any power since it is powered by it's on supply) and a GPS reciever (BU-353). So how it draws 2.5 amps, I don't know. The Audigy 2 might draw the full 1.5 amps, but I suspect it doesn't.

Anyways, my question, for those with experience with the Opus POL, what all have you had hooked up to it, and what experiences with the actual load have you had? Do you think I can get away with plugging both the Audigy 2 and the USB hib into it? Or should I use a seperate POL for each one?
