Should this be powered by a DC-DC PSU?

Would you run that off of a 5V regulated PoL supply or would you use the DC adapter and connect it straight to a 12v supply in the car?

    I'd use the 5V regulated.

It's made for car use - claims 9-16 volts. So I'd do whichever suits you.
