Question Using both Linear and Switching PSU

OK guys now im making a new Psu for my Setup ... this one i taught should have more juice on the 12vdc rail ..

Im using a sproggy design and was wondering if i use a linear regulator like the LM1084-12 (5amps.. )

Make a independent cuircut for the linear and connect both the linear 12 volt output and the swithing 12 volt output together

(ofcourse using proper diodes so they dont blowup each other)

So the question is will this boost the amps or Blow up....????

Open for advice, suggestion, comments ..

Dunno if this will help, but..

I had a sproggy 2.5 in my old player, but had major problems with my hard drive not spinning up - it drew far too much current. Cheap crap hard drives.

I added a separate circuit straight off the car positive, using a few caps and a Linear LT1086 12v regulator. This joined the hard drive +12 down the same wire as the sproggy - I just piggy-backed it on. Worked fine, no problems at all, hard drive spun up every time.

I used the same ground wires as the sproggy.

Not guaranteeing it will (or should) work for anyone else, but it certainly solved my problems.
