Well, since nobody replied and I found the answer out on my own after contacting OPUS, I figure I'll share the info so futureers can find it...
Although they don't recommend it (not sure why) OPUS claimed that shorting out those pins will not harm the PSU. I've since wired mine this way and the power button works just as expected. Since the PC is already set to do a shutdown when the power button is pressed (either by the OPUS or the switch), the computer will shutdown when I press the button and power down the PSU. It also works as a hard power-off (with the 4-5sec press) if the PC locks up.
