    Carnetix 1260 Wiring Question

    I am running a Carnetix 1260 Voltage Regulator with a Morex 60W PSU and the question I have has to do with wiring the Carnetix to the ignition switch.

    I have a 2003 Excursion and I have connected the yellow ignition wire on the Carnetix P1260to an "Add a Circuit" connector to which I have plugged it into the "Ignition Run/Start circuit on the fuse panel. The fuse panel has three ignition fuses: Ignition Run, Ignition, and Ignition Run/Start

    Everything works perfectly wired this way (ignition start carpc and monitor are powered and booted and shutdown work flawlessly), however I want to add a switch (as dipicted in the Carnetix wiring diagram) so that the Carnetix will not turn on the carpc everytime I turn on the ignition.

    This is where my problem begins, because with the switch added in between Carnetix and the ignition fuse, I keep blowing 10A fuses on the "Add a circuit" connector. I have the switch grounded, I run a wire from the switch supply side to the fuse connector and a wire from the switch source side back to the carnetix ignition wire.

    Do I have this wired correctly, any ideas why it keeps blowing fuses.

    dante19,

    Sounds like you may not have the type of switch you think you have. Try measuring the resistance of the switch input to output, and then from input to ground. I'll bet you have some sort of path to ground in your switch. Could you post of picture of the switch? Is it a simple SPST configuration?
    I have the switch grounded,
    How do you have it grounded...and why?

    Mike H,

    Resolved the problem, switch in use is a Pilot Illum Rocker Switch (PL-SW21B)for 12v driving lights, etc.

    Wired as follows:

    ______ = (-)ground
    |
    |
    ________________ = (+)Source Max 15a (Carnetix)
    |
    |
    ______ = (+)Power 12v (Iginition Switch Run/Start 10A Fuse)

    The only thing I notice now is that the switch seem to heat up,

    Appreciate the help or any additional info

    That looks like an illuminated switch. Genereally the input comes to teh middle terminal on a switch. It then pulls a tiny amount of this to illuminate the LED. However you seem to have the power coming in from the outer terminal. (im only specualting here from the information i can see)

    But it could be that since the input is not on the right terminal it could be shorting straight to ground blowing your circuit.
