Can i power my laptop through my battery port?

so my question is do you guys think i can some how run a regular power adapter to my battery port? the reason for this is that my power plug on my hp zv5000 got busted so bad it shorted something out and even with a new pig tail sordered to the mother board it doesnt reconize the the adapter so that side is shot but the computer works fine on battery power so i was thinkin in doin a power adapter through the battery port do you think this is possible? can i just plug the correct voltage to to it or sinced its not a battery it wont know how charged it is and wont work?

That technically would work, however, many batteries these days have circuitry inside the battery pack to tell the device (in your case, the laptop) what is going on with the bettery, what kind of battery (nicad/Nimh, the size of the battery). Take a look at the battery, and if it has just 2 contacts on it, then probably you will be o.k. If it has more then 2 contacts, I would take apart the battery CAREFULLY and try and determine what is inside connected to that contact.
