    Another M2ATX remote lead question

    So, after getting everything reinstalled in the car today, i found out that the remote lead doesn't supply enough current to power my amps, so I want to use a relay. Pin 30 will be switched 12v (from the radio fuse in the fusebox) and 87 to the Amp turn on. 85 will come from the remote turn on lead on the M2ATX but i'm unsure of where to ground pin 86. Do i ground it to the unused remote turn on pin, to a ground coming from the power supply, or can i ground it to the chassis of the car? I don't think it's a good idea to ground it to the car, but it would be easier in my case. Thanks in advance

    i think any of these would be fine, though i guess the best option is to use the M2 ground pin since you will already be running a wire from there.

    I would definitely ground it to the car. The M2's ground is most likely not high current--I know you're using a relay, but there's no need to stress the M2 unnecessarily. Unlike a few of the posts that I've read lately, it is absolutely fine to ground to the chassis/body of the car, I have been doing it for years will no ill effects.

    i tried doin the relay thing but the relay doesn't swith. I think the problem is the M2-atx remote amp pin gives 22mA of current (checked using a multimeter), while the relay coil is rated at 200 mA. any ideas how to get over this???

    i wish i could help you but unfortunately i dont have an answer for that. Can you check the volts (dc) on the + pin when the m2 is on? Curious to see if its 5v like some other people have discovered.

    mine's 12v exactly on the remote pin. It powers one of my amps, but if i hook both up one goes into protect, and the other doesn't come on at all

    if you mean the the remote amp pin, then no it is 12V. the problem the current, i measured the current needed by the relay and it is around 65mA. The current output of the 12v remote amp pin is around 20mA . I am really disappointed. I'm not sure if it will work if i run the remote amp signal straight to my 2 amps, meaning that each will get around 10mA. will this be enough to remotely turn on the 2 amps?? i hear most amps require between 10 & 50mA.

    Why dont you just use an optocoupler instead of a relay.
    Almost the same but can give high power switch with low power (amp) input
