    In Car, and In House

    I have a micro atx board: M7VIG 400 Biostar
    http://www.biostar-usa.com/mbdetails...odel=m7vig+400

With AMD Sempron processor 2600+ processor

I am going to also connect my Xenarc 700TSV Touch screen, as well as a USB GPS unit (Pharos).

So far so good... but the power supply is so so confusing for me (don't ask me why ).

What I would like is to NOT use an invertor (from what I read a bad idea). I want a power supply that I can use in the car BUT I need to take the PC out of the car and into the house so I need to be able to power it inside as well.

And thoughs... moreover specific power supplies would be greatly greatly greatly appreciated!!!!

Well 1, like you said get an inverter, but also like you said, not the best power effeciencey.

You could mount inside a second psu, for the car and add a second plug on the back. That way you use the standard psu at home and the second +12v one in the car.

Personally, i would look for an old PIII or something for the car, brining the unit to and from the house would probably be a hassle. OR check out the classifieds and see if you can pick up something inexpensive for the car.

why not buy an opus, matx, etc, and then for your house a suitable 12V transformer?

Thats a thought two. Instead of an inverter to suit the car for home, a 12v transformer to suit the home for car.

Is the computer built already or are you still in the design phase?

If you are designing, i suggest the transformer approch. It will make the actual box smaller and easier to move/store/etc.

Check out this thread in the FAQ Emporium: FAQ: Will <insert PSU model> Power Supply work with my system?

In addition to Sidewalksalvage's suggestion, you could also use the 12v line from a desktop ATX PSU as long as your carPC isnt' drawing more than the desktop PSU can provide. Check the amperage on the desktop PSU and it will say how much it provides.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?

The computer is already built, and trying to keep costs down right now on it. I am working with what I have.

Just a quick question about what the computer will draw... is that what the parts of the computer draw in terms of power, or is it what power supply I have attached?

Technically, the draw of the components, but I would make sure it has enough to power the M2-ATX in full, just in case.

I currently have a 350w ATX power supply attached since I am working on setting up the sofware (in the house of course). Once I am satisfied that the software will be good (still have not made a choice of what is "best" for me in that department) I will begin testing in the car.

I want to make a selection of a power supply and begin to integrate that, hence the post here.

One other reason I want to be able to remove the PC is that some of our canadian winters can get REALLY cold, so if it is going to be a cold day/night I can remove the PC to protect it properly.

Just more info... next week have the bezel being worked on to accomodate my Xenarc.
