    Presario AT or ATX?

OK, I need to know for sure whether my Mobo and PSU are AT or ATX. I mean it's usualy pretty simple, right? Check the main power plug going into the mobo...if it's one big plug, it's ATX, if it's two plugs side-by-side it's AT...right???? Well, mine uses the two side-by-side plugs going into the mobo from the PSU. My only thing is, it offers working fuctions such as "standby" mode. I thought that was only offered in ATX style mobo's??? What's the deal?!?

All I do is push the power button on the case and it goes into standby. Push it again, it "wakes up"...if I hold it in, it shutsdown. Also I don't get the "it is safe to shut off your computer" window from windows which I hear is only for AT style mobo's...but I still have that AT style power plug!!! ARRRRGHH, Help!!

Can someone please help me figure this one out? Is there another way to check and see if it's AT or ATX? I need to know because I'm going to get a DC-DC PSU and gotta know what style to get. Thanks!

Oh, BTW, it's an old Compaq Presario 4840.

Compaq as a bad habit of using custom designed parts. You got one with a custom power supply. You might have a third at style connector on that power supply somewhere. Etherway you will probably have to take i multimeter to the plugs to find out which lines have which voltages at build your own or at least a custom plug adapter. I used to fix compaqs but I nolonger have access to one of those powersupplys so I can't help you figure out which wire does what.

Spud the replacement part # is 286009-001.

I figured that. I do have an extra at style plug.

I'll just measure all the voltages and figure out if I need a AT or ATX power supply. My guess is I'll get a ATX and put the Compaq plugs on the end to the corresponding correct voltages on the new PSU.

I actuall have the part # to the Compaq PSU, but that really does me no good since it's 110v and I would still need a inverter. Not to mention mine still works and I have no need for a new one just to measure voltages.

    Thanks!

I gave the part number because spud42 said he wanted more details. It would be easier for him to just have the powersupply part number than to have to look it up.

If I remember correctly the two connectors that are together are the same as a standard AT and the third connector has the 3.3v and switch. Im not certain about the switch being on the third connector, it might be on other two.

I have a deskpro who has it's own connections too, its 2x7 connectors with atx powers: -12,-5,3,5,12 I just ran a extension cord from the mobo to the compaq psu and checked the voltages on them, the compaq website also provides help, check the pdf manual for your model, it sure helped me..
