    Talking Found a DC-DC PS

I sent some mail to PC Power and Cooling and flamed them for not making a 12V DC-DC PS, since they make everything else. It turns out that they do make one. It is a 100W DC-DC for $149 and it appears to be build very well. I just got one from the UPS man and I will try it this weekend and let you know. It is made to fit in a 1U server case, so it is small, however it won't fit in the SV24 I just bought, at least not in place of the existing PS.

It is on the Accessories page of there site.

They also have 12" ATX Extensions.

I just got on of the Turbo Cool 100-1U and it is a very nice power supply. I have limited time using it, but it powered up everything fine.

I agree it is very professionally made. Within about 10 minutes of pulling it out of the box I had decided to ignore the "Do Not Remove Cover" and it is very first class and I am amazed by the amount of citcuitry it contains. It is alot more complicated than the Sproggy PS, not that is a good thing.

I too was disapointed the it will not go in the SV25 case, it kinda looked like it might from the picture on the website.

But I would recommend it to anybody willing to part with $150.

They only provide 2 amps at 3.3 volts. That is fine if you want to run your machine without any ram. If you remember this post: Link Half way down the post, I measured 2.2 amps draw on the 3.3volt line. And that was with a super low power Celeron 566. I think they need to supply more current on the 3.3 and then it is actrative. Personally, I'd like to see a pentium 4 power supply in the form factor of the MPBS1... :-)

Since you already cracked it open how about you share what they used for the 12v line. Doesn't have to be the whole circuit, just the main regulator chip. How about a pic of the inside for fun?

Their site also has this table of power requirements...

    http://www.pcpowerandcooling.com/maxpc/index_cases.htm

According to them, a PII system could require around 70watts on the 3.3v line...

Here is what their 230w atx powersupply produces

    http://www.pcpowerandcooling.com/pro...x_econ_atx.htm

    3.3v at 13amps...

It all adds up to 100 watts...

How about that picture of the power supply. I'm interested in it but I want to see if. Especially since I don't see it listed on the web site.

    Specs on power supply
Are there any other photo's (or does anyone own one)?

Do the power connectors come out the end of the box opposite the fan/switch, or do they come out the side?

Side would be nice, and save me from modding it...

The ATX power cords come out the end (opposite the fan). I say it would be difficult to get them out the side, but ofcourse anything is possible.

As far as the current draw, I have not checked to see how much my setup is pulling, but I have run it off this power supply for hours (out of the car) and it does fine. The system it is running is a SV25 with Pioneer DVD, 40 gig Maxtor hard Drive and floppy, two small fans (the case and the CPU) and thats it. All other items I am powering off and Sproggy 2.5 I built that fires mother boards, put it runs 12VDC accessories fine.

I would gladly post pics, but I don't have a digital camera and am to lazy to take a film picture and drive to Walmart and get them delevoped.
