The PC's case should be grounded to the car's chassis. Avoid ground wires used by the radio etc. Ideally, a thick, short cable to prevent ground loops. I'm using the switched 12V from my car to feed the serial port and it works great.
good luck
Hi.
I am new to this carputer world, and I would like to try building one. I've been stalking these forums alot and I think I have a pretty good idea on what I need to do. However, I am confused on one part. For the fake UPS schematics, it says to apply +12v to pin 8 on the serial port. So with the +12v applied, where do I connect the negative terminal (ground)? I've searched these forums and I have not found anything useful. Also, once I configure the computer to hibernate with the fake UPS, do I simply go into the BIOS and enable the power on after power loss setting to make my computer turn on automatically once the inverter is powered on? Just making sure before I do anything. Advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
