    PC/AMP Issue

    Hey all,

I have finnaly got my Carpc up and running after a few duff power supplies and lack of time!!

I decided to keep the stock HU and install an amp to get the sound from my PC. This is where my problem lies.

I am powering both the AMP and PC from a 12v+ direct from the battery (fused) with a distro block on the other end to split the power.

I have 2 wires running from my 12v switched radio harness wire, one to the PC one to the amp.

Problem: If i try with both connected to this wire the AMP starts but the PC doesn't. When i disconnect the AMP wire the PC starts. I tried to add a switch to the AMP wire so once the PC has started the AMP can be flicked on manually, but this in turn switches off the PC!!

Does anyone have any ideas how to work around the issue?

Thanks in advance for your help

    Regards

maybe throw a relay in there off your 12v switched from your radio, and hook it to your 12v from battery. Use the relay for your PC, leave your amp directly on the 12v switched.

Are you saying the 12v switched off your HU as in the remote turn on? Or what 12v switched is this exactly?

Yeas Tidder it's the 12v switched i.e remote turn on to my HU.

Sorry i'm not too familiar with relays. So the +12v from my battery and the switch 12v from my radio go into the relay and also wire to my pc?

    Thanks for the quick response!

    Just found this:

Using a Relay to Turn On an Amplifier

    Steps:
    1. Connect the remote-on lead from the head unit to pole 85.

    2. Apply ground to pole 86.

    3. Put positive voltage from the battery to pole 87.

    4. Attach the amplifier turn-on lead to pole 30.

I assume this will be the same for switching on the PC?

Do i need to splice into my HU wiring in order to connect to the relay poles?

What gauge wire are you using for your +12V for the PC and the amp?

    Yeah, that's it exactly.

You'll have to splice off your remote lead, that's it.

Ok cool. Lastly is there another pole on the relay to connect my HU back up ,as i still need that to work!

That should be ok. Use a relay to turn on each item and you should be ok.

Here is some good info on relays: http://www.the12volt.com/relays/relays.asp

No, you shouldn't have to disconnect anything from your HU. Just splice off the wire that's already there. It doesn't need hooked up to the relay.

Sorry, this whole time I was speaking in terms of the remote on wire coming from your HU. The 12v switched wire leave hooked directly to your HU. Just splice off of it for the relay.
