    ACE-870C dc-dc power supply

    Hi all
I just got a ACE-870C dc to dc power supply

    http://www.aplus-sa.com/us/showprod....rm=5&fbr=&div=

It's just like any other pc power supply, just hooking up 12Volts doesn't turn it on. I was wondering what pins need to be jumped to turn it on.
It has a harness to plug into a otherboard BUT I'm using my laptop, so I plan to draw power from the molex connectors 12V and 5V

also this DC to DC power supply is setup to accept 24 volts input.
I was wondering if there is a way to mod it to accept straight 12 volt

    thanks

    Input voltages: 18 to 36 VDC - 6A@24VDC

    Read the specs.

I did, even tough it will accept the range 18-36vdc, it's labled the 24V unit. 18v is the VERY minimum, and 36v the very maximum.
12V is still outside of that minimum limit. I don't think it'll on until it sees 18V minimum

You will need to convert 12V to 24V. (Or at minimum 18V)

It looks to be a AT type PSU, so all it should need it a load.

You are better off getting a 12v power supply. Transforming 12v to 24v , you will need a regulator , and a regulator wont supply enough amps for a power supply.

Or you can put 2 batteries in series, but then how would you charge them?

Yeah, by the time you build or buy a power supply to convert 12v to 24v to power it, you could have simply purchased a power supply that directly gave you the 12v and 5v outputs that you need... like the CarNetix CNX-P1290 for sale in the mp3car store.
But don't take it from me! here's a quote from a real, live newbie:
