Question Power Supply for my GPS unit

Is there another way to power this thing besides the PS2 port? My PS2 port is in use and I know all it uses that port is for power. Here's a link to the GPS reciever I have.

So why don't you just feed it +5V from your power supply ? Or hell, I think those can run even up to 16V, so give it +12V from your car battery.

I just cut off the PS2 plug and put on a 4 pin molex that connects to my PS +5v & gnd.

    works fine

Depending on how much current it needs, you could just use a 5V linear regulator connected to the car power.

I am using the same GPS receiver and just went with a PS2 "splitter" for lack of a better name. Buy it at any computer store. It plugs into the PS-2 port and has two connectors, one with both data and power and the other with just power.

I think they are used for Laptops where you want to hook up a keyboard and mouse.

    They are kinda pricey, $20.

Or you could get the 6 foot ps2 extender cable ($6),
carefully slice it open away from the connectors,
carefully scrape some insulation away from the wires within,
(probably the red and black ones to begin with)
hook a voltmeter to one end and probe the wires to find the ones connected to the + and - pins.

(probably have to look up a ps2 pinout diagram.)

I wrote down the colors and pins of the belkin cable I did...but don't know where exactly I put it...

I made 2 cables this way.
