Angry Sproggy not working, LM2587 hot, odd voltages (pics)

Ok - I had my sproggy completely built, bench tested with a voltmeter, and everything was fine. As soon as I plugged in my mobo, the SA28A diode popped. I got the kit from Mastero, and the diode that he supplied was a Motorola P6KE 27A diode.

What caused that diode to pop, and what can I do about it? Where can I get another diode?

Also, Can I just jumer it off? Or what would be a suitable Rat Shack replacement?

buddy the question you should be asking is why did it pop?

its a 27amp diode.. so i dont think it should pop ... did you connect the diode right ..

go to rat shack and find out if they have the same or equavalant..

    mastero

    you can also try http://parametric.fairchildsemi.com

here they have sa28a and give out samples...

I had it wired the way it's shown on the sproggy layout sheet on sproggy.mp3car.com's 2.5 layout sheet.

    why else would it pop?

This is for the first time i ever heard that the diode poped..?

it will pop it there is a major short ..

    Check the following

    1) when you connected it to the mobo did the pcb short like even a small wire will short it

    2) check the pcb to see if there is any evidence of short

Doesn't look like it. No burn marks anywhere that I can see. I'll have to see when I replace the diode.

What are the required specs for the diode that goes there?

The SA28A diode was most likely inserted the wrong way around.

Its a 28V zener transient suppression diode. Its used to dissipate voltage spikes from leakage inductance in the flyback circuit.

The circuit will work without it but its not recommended.

Umm - I replaced the 12v reg, and still no go. Please help? I get .5v on the 12v rail and the 12v reg gets really hot. I'm powering the psu from a 230w AT PSU. Help!

Where at? Here's a scan of the bottom of the board. As far as I can see, there's nothing wrong except for my messy soldering, and the missing SA28A diode

The voltages listed are what I get when I read using my voltmeter.

Here's the top of the board - my new SA28A diode came today so this shows it installed.
