engine heat may be an issue... The trunk are would probably work better. Problem #2 is when its very sunny the body gets hot!
I have come up with the ultimate powersupply for you carmp3player... This powersupply will take up ZERO space, so you can make the case even smaller!!! It will cause no heat problems... The cost is also very close to ZERO!!!! how you may ask??? well, it simple..use a linear powersupply, and mount it on a largish heatsink... STUCK UNDER THE HOOD!!! lol.. just run teh individual 3.3, 5 and 12volt lines to the back(or front) of the car where the player is... Heat generated by the 5 and 3.3volt regulators will only be a problem to themselves.... and even then, you could have a massive heatsink.... What do you guys think of another of my KEWL ideas?? lol

Well can't teh regulators withstand upto like 150degrees Celcius or something?? anyway.... mount the heatsink near the front of the car to get air.. simple lol
1) It doesn't take up zero space, it just takes up space elsewhere.
2) How about you build it and then come back and show us it can be done.

Old Systems retired due to new car
New system at design/prototype stage on BeagleBoard.
I am in the process of making it.... Just need time.. lol Will have probably 2 or 3 5volt regulators (5amp) and maybe 1 12volt 5amps regulator (if I can get it to regulate properly) or 4 1amp 12volt regulators....![]()
One word springs to mind, Rain under the hood is will be exposed to all kinds of crap. Water spray, grit, oil etc. You'll need to put it in a sealed box, hence no cooling from the air.

And you say people actually pay money for M$ Windows?

Total re-design underway: on the whole progress is very slow as the car is taking up too much time :)
Nah, the warmth from the engine and regulators will evaporate the moisture quickly... Linear regulators are pretty rugged, and should survive alright in the bad conditions..... the heatsink is aluminum, so it won't rust.. it should be fine...Originally posted by Rob

I would hate to think of the power loss of running the 3.3, 5v etc over a very long distance, unless you are going to run it through 4ga wireOriginally posted by THEMP3KID

MP3kid it sound like a good idea...!!!
Matter of fact since you put your PSU under the hood why dont you even try to make the Heat sink "WATER COOLED" like put the Regulators on a aluminum pipe and run water through it or even better run coolant ....!!!
Think about it
