    Help with DC-DC for Mini-ITX

I've just recieved one of those Via Mini-ITX motherboards, and want a DC-DC converter to power it.

I've found the ACE-890V, but it has no 3V output.

Is it ok to take a feed of the 12V, and reduce it with resistors?
Or is there a better device?

Using voltage regulator IC's would be a much better idea, do a search on maxim's website or even nationals.

don't quote me, but i think people are using the ACE-895, it might be worth a look.

Don't use resistors, the way they drop the voltage is by heat, you could easily make a 50 watt heater for your car if your not carefull.

Also it'll be difficult to obtain an accureate 3.3v reference as the PC will effectivly appear to be a "resistor" with an unknown value.

Try a voltage regulator if your not very hot on electronics(althought max current might be an issue), alternatively if your a bit mor confidence try a switch mode supply.

    Now for the blatant plug,

Have a look at www.mp3mini.tk for more info on PSU.

Total re-design underway: on the whole progress is very slow as the car is taking up too much time :)
