Question Com port shutdown controller: .net error/crash after resume from hibernation

    Hi.

Right now I am trying to use this program to make my computer automatically hibernate. The user weekendowel posted this program:

    New shutdown controller - software

I have tried powering my computer at home and using this program. It hibernates my computer and resumes it fine. However, I was doing some testing and had my computer powered off an inverter in my car. The hibernation works fine, but when I resume from hibernation, I get an error saying that this .net program hs encountered an error. I can click on "details," "continue anyways," or "quit." I have gotten this problem every single time I try to setup my computer in the car, but I cannot recreate the problem at home. By the way, when I was doing testing, I only had an inverter, tank circuit, and amp set up. I did not buy a lcd touchscreen yet so I did my testing by having a mouse, keyboard, and crt monitor in my passenger seats. Everything works the way it should, except for my hibernation issue. Does anyone have any ideas on what is happening? What can I do? I am completely clueless as to where I should start to try troubleshooting since I have zero idea what could be causing this.

I am running into the same problem

I'm using Windows Media Center Edition, and it in itself uses .Net for it to work.

Plus the shutdown program uses .Net for it to work, but I dont think they agree with eachother. Very weird.... I cant understand how to get my shutdown working back the way it should.

In your case, are you saying that resume from hibernation also does not work only when you are powered off the inverter? Because that is the case for me. Everything works fine when I run off AC power though.

I think that program forces hibernation in a way different from using a power button for 'sleep' or using a 'sleep' button on a keyboard. Somehow it doesn't 'pause' everything running and can cause problems on restart. For instance, I used to be able to have speedfan survive hibernation when i was using a hacked USB keyboard to simulate the 'sleep' button, but with this program, it no longer survives.

Oh well. I wont be using hibernate anyways. I did a clean install of 2fastxp with minlogon tweak. I can boot to music in 40 seconds.

When you try to hibernate, are you leaving power applied to the inverter long enough for the system to complete the hibernation?

Just trying to give you some ideas!

Ok I just finished installing my carputer setup and everything works fine EXCEPT for my automatic shutdown. Previously, the program had problems hibernating the computer, but could shut down fine. However, now, the program crashed when it detects that pins 4 and 8 are shorted. Here is a screenshot of the error I get when my COM pins are shorted.

I am REALLY desperate for a quick fix to this. Perhaps there are other ways that shorting a few pins will initiate a shutdown? I have all my network of relays which control the shorting of pins 4 and 8 all hidden nicely in a distribution box, and I would really prefer to not have to open it up and rewire everything. Suggestions would really be appreciated. Thank you.

Also, to reply to the person who asked me if I am hibernating while power applied, the answer is YES. The inverter is controlled by the ACC wire, but my inverter remains on as long as the computer's PSU is supplying 12 volts to a relay. Therefore, my computer gets power as long as it is powered up.

What version of .net do you have installed? That looks like the same error I was getting before.... But, I ended up intstalling .net version 2.0 and all works fine now.

Perhaps you have automatic updates on, and it updated your .net without you knowing? Or maybe it has nothing to do with .net all together, but I know thats what fixed my issue
