8awg to 18awg wiring using fuses

I've read many threads about wire gauges and what fuse to use, but I've seen different opinions on how to deal with a larger wire going to a smaller wire.

Specifically, I have 8awg power wire from battery that will be connected to the m1-atx power wire lead (which is 18awg I believe). There is a 10A fuse on the m1-atx and I will be using a 10A fuse on the 8awg power wire by the battery. It is ok to just solder these different gauge wires together right? But, I've heard that any change in wire size should be accompanied by an in-line fuse. In this case, is there a need for another fuse in between the 2 wires? The 18awg wire from the m1-atx is only a foot long. I'm thinking that it isn't necessary because there is a 10A fuse by the battery and on the m1-atx, so it doesn't make sense to put a smaller fuse than what is on the PSU.

Is my thinking here logical or am I confused? I just want to be as safe as possible. Any comment appreciated, thanks.

just get a distro block, a lot of them have fuses anyway

they can take 8gauge and output to 2-3 18gauge wires (for future upgrade )
