The wires should be hooked up correctly to the header unless positive and negative matter, which as far as i know they shouldnt.

I'll have to check the BIOS again but i'm pretty sure there are no power options.
    Positive and negative can matter.

Do you have a button that you can connect to the MB instead of J8. Power the M2 (including the accessory wire), push the button, and see if you boot. Push the button again, and see what happens. All the M2 does is simulate a button press. You can check for continuity between the two wires of J8 when it goes to shut down (with out it connected to the MB, to confirm that it is sending the "shutdown" signal)

ok, i switched the wire and it seems to have worked. The only other thing i'm having a problem with is the fact that when i turn the key it doesnt shutdown. it will wait the 45sec then "hardoff".

Did you confirm that the M2 is sending the "shutdown" signal by checking for continuity when it starts to shutdown.

Also, check Control panel, Power Options, Advanced, and choose what you want to happen when the button is pushed.

What MB do you have? Sounds like it doesn't support ACPI, which could be a problem.

my board is a PC Chips M825G v9.2a

EDIT: did a google search and came across a few sites who sell this board and the specs on those sites claim it has support for ACPI v1.0.

Would it be possible to remove support for ACPI on the software/OS side? I'm using an "nLited" version of XP which has a number of things removed. Could this be part of the problem?

And check your BIOS settings, you must enable ACPI ior API, whatever they call it.

checked BIOS, found an option that said ACPI Aware O/S - Yes so it should be enabled.

booted the system, turned key off and it remains on for 45sec before hardoff

Is it enabled. DL your manual (http://www.pcchips.com.tw/PCCWeb/Pro...ilName=Manual), and read the BIOS settings, and set them up correctly. There is also "power management enabled/disabled" in the BIOS.

    Then, back to control panel.

If that doesn't work, and you determine that the M2 is sending the signal, then it is the MBs lack of ACPI support, or the OS.

ok, well the bios is setup right and it still doesnt work, i'm thinkin its the fact that i used nLite on the OS, tomorrow i'll see if i can get another hard drive and try a fresh install on it. I'll also see if i can get ahold of a DMM to check if the M2 is sending the signal.

    thanks for the help!
